Hostile Because They Know the Truth

We are living in a world that despises and rejects God and his Son. Yet, this should not cause us to despair. God’s judgment will surely fall on those who repudiate his Son or the Gospel of eternal salvation. Hell is no fiction of the imagination but it is a dreadful reality for all those who despise the Lord and scorn his Word.

Even so, while we as believers remain in this world it is our duty and responsibility to reach out to the lost–for they will surely perish if they are not brought to repentance. As Christians, we are to act as lights in the world; never being ashamed of testifying to the saving and forgiving grace of God through Jesus Christ his Son.

Our light–the witness of our lives as Christians–must shine forth that others may see the true Light of life and believe in Him. Yet, we must not be discouraged by the hostility and mocking of the unbelieving world around us. Let us remember that–although they may deny it, and although they may stifle their consciences against the truth–everyone is aware of the existence, power and glory of God. (Rom. 1:18ff) They deny God because they fear him. They know that he will judge the world in righteousness (Acts 17:30-31), therefore they attempt vainly to hide from the truth and to persuade others to do the same.

Therefore, let us not be afraid to proclaim the message of the Gospel–lovingly, faithfully, and unapologetically. History has shown that many who once denied the existence of God and who derided the Gospel of eternal salvation were brought subsequently to repentance and faith by hearing God’s Word proclaimed in the power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, let us proclaim the Gospel of the Lord Jesus that sinners may yet be delivered from the judgment to come, and from that eternal sentence of condemnation which they will hear pronounced upon them at the last day.
