About the Author

For a period of 14 years, between the early 1960’s and the mid 1970’s, Gordon Lyons worked in the field of electronics technology, in which he held qualifications and awards. During this time (in 1963), Gordon was converted to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Some years later, the Lord called Gordon to preach the Gospel among young people on the streets of Glasgow, Scotland where he then lived. For nearly 25 years, between the early 1970’s and the mid 1990’s, many hundreds of young people and their families heard and learned the words of eternal life, and of the only way of salvation by the grace of God through regeneration, repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

During the course of this 25-year outdoor ministry, and as time permitted, the author privately studied theology including hermeneutics and other related subjects, using, among others, the 3-volume work on Systematic Theology by Charles Hodge. More recently, these early studies have been augmented by Joel Beeke and Paul Smalley’s Reformed Systematic Theology, by Herman Bavinck’s Reformed Dogmatics and Reformed Ethics, and by other similar works.

Some years after the initial studies, and following further study in the Word of God, Gordon began work on Bible Truths Explained (a series of studies on Bible doctrine). Later, a start was made on a series of New Testament commentaries, or NT Expository Notes.

When the outdoor work came to a close in the mid 1990’s the author began concentrating his time and efforts on revising and completing this written study material. The two series, Bible Truths Explained and NT Expository Notes are now available free of charge here on this website for reading online or for downloading. God willing, other titles should follow in due course. At the moment, the doctrinal series Bible Truths Explained consists of 27 different studies on the foundational teachings of God’s Word.

When completed, the NT commentary or NT Expository Notes series should cover many of the New Testament books. Early versions of these Expository Notes were released some years ago and still appear on this website. However. these early versions are in the process of being updated and replaced by a revised and expanded Second Series of Notes.

The first Second Series NT Expository Notes title to be released and uploaded was 2 Corinthians (2021). The year appended to the NT Book title indicates both the release year and the fact that this is a Second Series commentary. The enlarged Second Series Notes supersedes and replaces any earlier NT Expository Notes of the same name. New NT Expository Notes titles presently being prepared for future release (DV) include Paul’s epistles to the Colossians & Philemon (second series) and the Gospel of Matthew (second series).

It is the author’s earnest prayer that you will find these doctrinal studies and expository commentaries helpful, and that God will richly bless you as you search and examine the unchanging and infallible Word of God, which these studies seek to expound to the glory of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Local Church Affiliation

As a former atheist, vehemently opposed to God and Christianity, Gordon Lyons had no desire for a church connection until events leading up to his conversion by the grace of God in 1963. Thereafter, and until shortly before the meeting closed in the early 1980s, Gordon met with the believers at Elim Hall (a Christian Brethren assembly, renamed latterly as Crosshill Evangelical Church), in Glasgow, Scotland. Subsequently, and until he left that city, the author enjoyed fellowship with the believers at Harper Memorial Baptist Church in Glasgow. In1998, following a move to Largs in North Ayrshire, Scotland, the author associated with the believers at an evangelical church in that town.

In the years spent in both Glasgow and Largs, the author has pursued his written ministry, and will continue to do so for as long as the Lord enables and permits.

Thank you for your concern and for your prayers.

Yours sincerely in Christ Jesus,

Gordon
